Bear is not satisfied, and neither is Little Bird. “I wish I could fly,” says Bear. “I’ll teach you,” says Little Bird, “if you’ll teach me to be big.” It’s a bargain. But no matter how much Bear makes his friend eat and exercise, Little Bird stays little. Then Bear’s garden yields a baby pumpkin that gives him an idea. Bear draws a likeness of Little Bird on the gourd. When it is fully grown, Little Bird is thrilled with the sight of himself really big, and finds his own way to reciprocate.
Favorite author Frank Asch uses his simple, bright illustrative style to bring to life a charming tale, part of his popular “Moonbear” series. Children will delight in the humor of Bear and Little Bird’s bargain, while appreciating the message that there is always more than one way to realize a dream.
